Our Story

“My mom in-law, Leela whom I address as “amma” has opened out her 125 year old house to family and friends and friends of friends..

This little house is a “tharavdu” or a traditional ancestral home.

Amma has an only son who is fondly called as O.G.

“O” stands for the family name- Ollaril and “G” stands for Gopinath, his “achen” or father.

Achen Gopinatha Menon joined his wife and lived here for many beautiful years and ran a school, the first English medium school in the Panchayat, which turns a 100 in 2019.

Achen and Amma played a vital role in shaping the community and are known for their philanthropic efforts.

They welcomed artists, academicians, curators, to use the Tharavadu as a creative outlet.

The 4 acre property sits along the backwaters of a beautiful landscape of coconut palms and banana plants. With our cows, lotus ponds and natural water bodies to cultivate fish, the property is more like a farm house that’s only 15km away from the Kochi city centre.

The main building encompasses a big open foyer, 3 rooms and the kitchen. Surrounding the main house are the cottages, clubhouse with a swimming pool and an Ayurvedic massage room.

Our structures are of local materials that highlight the traditional craftsmanship.

Our food stays close to nature, where one can savour the generation old recipes that will enrich the taste buds.

Light diyas at the thulasi thara and pray your Gods for prosperity and peacefulness.

Go fishing or boating in the backwaters, have a tour around the village on a cycle, taste the fresh toddy, and finish the day at our Ayurvedic spa.

Here you can touch and feel ages old antiques and furniture.

Be with history.”
